Traditional Tang Soo Do instruction for kids, teens, adults and families. Building character through martial arts since 1990.
Rooted in tradition. Focused on community.
Kingston Martial Arts has been part of the Kingston, NY community for decades. Built on traditional Tang Soo Do, the school exists to develop character, confidence, and discipline in students of all ages.
Our lineage traces directly to Grand Master Hwang Kee, the founder of Tang Soo Do, and is preserved through the lifelong work of Grand Master Keith Bennett. Since 1976, Master Bennett has trained in and protected the art as it was taught to him. He earned his Master Rank from Grand Master Hwang Kee in 1995 and continued his progression to 8th Dan, carrying forward both the technique and the values that define Tang Soo Do.
After decades of leadership in Kingston, Master Bennett entrusted the school to his student, Kyo Sa Lionel Johnson. Under his leadership, Kingston Martial Arts continues to grow while staying true to its roots. Master Bennett remains active, teaching the Dan program and refining advanced forms to ensure the standard of the art remains intact.
This continuity matters. What is taught here is not a variation or a trend. It is the art itself, passed down with care and practiced with purpose.
We believe martial arts is for everyone, not just the naturally athletic. Our programs meet each student where they are, building skill over time while creating a community grounded in respect, effort, and growth.

Everything you need to know before getting started.
Most of our students start with zero experience. Our instructors guide beginners through every move, stance, and bow. Your child will feel welcome from day one.
For the free trial week, comfortable workout clothes are all they need. After enrolling, students wear a traditional dobok (uniform), which we can help you order.
Many of our most confident students started out shy. The structured environment and supportive community help children come out of their shell at their own pace.
We offer flexible membership options. Your first week is completely free with no obligation, so you and your child can experience the program before making any commitment.
Absolutely. We welcome parents to watch every class. In fact, many parents who start by watching end up joining our adult program!
